BRAINS IN SPAIN

A shared love of cats led to an interview recently about Farewell, my Lovely on REM FM, Spain’s largest English-language radio network which broadcasts 24 hours a day from Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Presenter Mary Harboe read Susie Cornfield’s article in the Mail on Sunday’s You Magazine about the loss of her feline companion, Brains the MagnifiCat, which led her to writing the book, and invited Susie on to her programme. They talked also about The Sticky Rock Café and the next book in that series, The Palace of Dekaydence, to be published later this year, or early 2008.

FAREWELL, MY LOVELY - REVIEWS

I must admit that it took me a week to actually open my copy of Farewell, my Lovely. The idea of wading through a hundred and odd pages of reminiscences of dead animals did not appeal at all, but it was on my job list and so last Sunday afternoon I sat down with a cup of tea and began to read.
And what a joyful afternoon I had! The little book contained so much happiness that I couldn’t put it down until I’d read every page. There was no sentimental slush, no maudlin anecdote, but page after page of the celebration of the lives of dogs, cats, rabbits, horses; even a snake slithered its way onto the pages. I was smiling but reaching for the tissues at the same time…
… the prose pieces are interspersed with delightful poetry… The very brevity of the pieces means that it is easy to dip into the book… This is a happy little volume, a celebration of life… I would buy a copy for anybody who had suffered loss and was struggling to come to terms with it…
BJ Kerks, Fur & Feather, March, 2007

… This collection of affectionate memories of beloved pets… will ease the pain of grieving and help celebrate the life of a departed animal… The Good Book Guide, January, 2007

… It is by no means a collection of depressing tales; on the contrary, it celebrates the love and fun that our animals share with us – though you may need to reach for the tissues on occasion… Horse Magazine, January, 2007

Absolutely enchanting! Jilly Cooper

Farewell, my Lovely is great - a good balance between sadness and happy memories… I  was especially entertained by Thomas Hardy's cat poem (he had a softer side - would never have guessed). Jane M, School Librarian, Surrey

Dear Susie, I've so enjoyed your lovely, lovely book. Congratulations! I'm spreading the word, everywhere. I was particularly moved by 'Prayer of a Horse.' Margaret Budd, Enfield

STICKY ROCK CAFE - REVIEWS

Planet Earth is dying; adolescent eco-warriors are struggling to save our planet. The Sticky Rock Café is a fast-paced, well-plotted thriller filled with futuristic details and good, old-fashioned drama. I look forward to seeing The Sticky Rock Café turned into a children's drama it certainly has the dialogue, and the characters are eminently believable, thus allowing the reader to become caught up in their passions and struggles.
A definite "must-read," the book's sense of place and sympathetic characters will linger in the reader's mind. Highly recommended. And I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.
Fran Crumpton, The Book Partnership

The "visual" style of this book triggers such vivid images in one's mind that at times it's like watching a fast-paced film, with many twists and turns of the plot that make you frequently reassess characters' standpoints. It can't be slotted into any particular writing genre - it is uniquely itself! A thoroughly enjoyable read that leaves you impatient to read the sequel… Rosamund Jesson, Literary Editor, London

The Sticky Rock Cafe is excellent, fantastic… and quite unexpected in places! I give this book five stars out of five and have recommended it to my friends Olivia and Jessica. Ciara D, age 11, Croydon

Youngsters are increasingly aware of the consequences of their actions on the environment and it's good to have authors who are equally concerned. In The Sticky Rock Cafe, Susie Cornfield has created a set of characters who really care and are prepared to do something to ensure the world's survival. This book is a great read, a truly great blend of plot, music, and politics, and what's more, will appeal to all ages. Tony Higginson, Manager, Pritchards, Formby

Action-packed! Exciting!… Can't wait to read the sequel! Jacqueline Barber, Company Director, Putney

The Sticky Rock Cafe is a break-neck ride through the adventures of a group of teenagers as they take on everything from government conspiracies and the collapse of the environment, to a chain of cafes with really nice trousers. Exhaustingly good. Charlie Ovink, student, Hong Kong

… there are enough plot twists, red herrings and mad coincidences to satisfy any lover of a good conspiracy theory thriller and then some more… The Sticky Rock Café is actually very enjoyable. It wears its heart on its sleeve and it's really rather a nice heart… Jill Murphy, The Bookbag

COMING SOON - ROCKY 2

The Palace of Dekaydence, the sequel to The Sticky Rock Café, is planned for publication late in 2007, early 2008.
